Daniel Spiteri

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Daniel Spiteri and I work in the Sportsbook department, I’m a Level 2 Euro Sports Trader.

What initially drew you to Betway?

Betway is a well-established and growing company, and my skill set was very well suited for the role. Betway appealed to me as they’re innovative and always have creative ideas. You can see the company has real ambition to get to the top of our industry, and the core values also convinced me to join.

How has your career developed at Betway?

I have been with Betway for five years now, and looking back to when I joined, I’m a much more experienced trader with a completely different skillset. Betway has helped me develop a lot on a personable level, as they encourage you to work and interact with a lot of people in many different departments. I feel like I’m a much better version of myself now than when I joined.

What is a typical day at work like for you?

Putting out competitive offers to our customers, trading live sport events, risk management, it’s always busy for me!

We work shifts and we’ll have different duties when on shift. As soon as I log on I’ll check the sporting calendar to see what is going on that day, the following week, and when the next big sporting events are.

I’ll then check previous daily reports and figures to see how we’re progressing, where we made profits or losses, and see where we can improve. We check on the customers, test the working models and software, as well as standard daily tasks.

How has Betway changed in your time here?

The first thing that comes to mind is how quickly and efficiently Betway has grown. When I joined there was only a handful of employees, but now that number has grown quite a bit!

Our way of working has also changed quite a lot due to the pandemic. We’re now hybrid working which is a good balance of working from home and coming into the office. It’s nice to come into the office to meet co-workers and have better chats about work and more personal conversations. It’s helped me when training new traders, as you learn so much more face to face than on a Teams call.

Nothing beats the office atmosphere, but at the same time, it’s nice to be able to work night shifts from home!

What's special about Betway?

There are always opportunities to progress, so if you work hard, build your skill set and keep true to our core values, opportunities will come. There’s a great atmosphere here, everyone is very nice and friendly. It’s a great environment, management are always there for you and will always listen to you, which isn’t always a guarantee at other companies. Your voice is heard.

How does it feel to be a part of the Betway team?

It was challenging at first, which I definitely think is a good thing as it shows you’re working hard and engaged in the role. Having said that, it’s also very rewarding. Not just in terms of benefits or pay, it’s rewarding through things like seeing your team grow or seeing something your team has put together in use, like new system models. I’m proud to be a part of the Betway team and always ready to Share the Thrill!

Can you list the most challenging but exciting aspects of your role?

The more we grow, the more challenging it gets. Betway are getting closer and closer to the top of the industry, and with that we need to strive for consistency and perfection, ensure that our products and services remain at their very high level, and provide customers with the best offers.

To be the best, you must perform at your best!

What three words would you use to describe Betway to potential new starters?

Exhilarating, Rewarding, Gratifying.

Tomorrow will never be the same as today, every day is exhilarating. It’s rewarding because Betway is a great company to work for. The benefits are great, and they really look after us, plus the people that work here are amazing to work with.

Working in such a company where you can see your input has had a positive impact on your team, or seeing something you’ve worked on displayed on the website, or seeing customers enjoying what you have put together, it’s really gratifying.

You have 30 seconds, what makes working at Betway so good?

First of all, the company culture is great. The company and employees share the same values, attitudes and behaviours. There’s a lot of open communication which is important. There is trust in employees, and there is always scope for innovation, which are all great aspects that make Betway such a good place to work. There’s also a lot of room for professional development. Betway invests a lot in its employees and will always help you grow professionally and personally.
